I’m a writer, journalist, wife and mom.
This blog is for the words no one is paying me to write.
For years I’ve toyed with the idea of a blog, but I just didn’t want to become the worst of the blogosphere. But there’s a critical mass of words now that need a place to live, so I’ve built them this little home, and I just pray it doesn’t become a catalogue of my most vain musings.
Someone recently asked when I feel the most inspired. I responded: the moment I feel like I’m free from something. Open roads, running, art museums and the biting first sip of whiskey all seem to do the trick. And writing. Writing always makes me feel free.

Hi Beka,
My husband and I are looking for property in San Antonio and were checking out Dignowity Hill and I fell in love. I started searching online about the area and the revitalization process and came across you’re article “Where I Live: Dignowity Hill.” It was inspirational- I’m from New Orleans and working to improve a historic city really resonates. I would love to chat with you about your experiences as we look for a house in the area. I hope you get in touch! (couldn’t find a way to email you privately so I thought I would take a chance on a post 🙂
Lauren, did you move there and if so how are you liking it?
Also would love to talk with you about Dignowity Hill. Buying a home there soon.
